Acne forms when the pores around your hair follicles become clogged. Sebum (the oily substance on your skin) is released by the sebaceous gland deep within your skin to help keep your skin hydrated and protect your skin’s natural barrier. Excess oil combined with dead skin cells allows bacteria to grow in the clogged pore and creates a lesion or pimple. Most people experience some form of acne in their lifetime, but it’s particularly prevalent in teens and young adults. That said, acne can form at almost age and for a number of reasons.
